The Mass.
The Eucharist in its full Catholic form — the sacrifice made present, daily, on every altar on earth.
The Mass is the center of Catholic life and its structure is fixed: liturgy of the Word, then liturgy of the Eucharist, with the consecration at its heart. The vernacular reform of the 1960s replaced Latin in most parishes and remains the most emotionally charged internal division in the church, with traditionalist communities continuing the older rite under permissions that have been granted, restricted, and revisited by successive popes.
