The church needs no emperor.
Born outside Rome's borders, it never had a Constantine — mission and persecution, not establishment.
Because it developed outside the Roman Empire, under Persian and later Islamic rule, the Church of the East never had a Christian emperor and never expected one. That produced a genuinely different relationship between church and state from anything in Western or Byzantine Christianity, and it is one reason the church's missionary method relied on trade routes and monasteries rather than on political conversion.
