The liturgy crossed intact.
The terms of 1930 were that the community would keep its West Syriac rite, its Malayalam, its married clergy and its discipline, and it did. The Qurbana of Saint James is celebrated in this church substantially as it is in the Malankara Orthodox and Jacobite churches, which is unusual: most reunions of the period cost the incoming church its liturgy.
The 1930 reunion is unusual in the history of Eastern Catholic unions for how little was demanded. Mar Ivanios negotiated for the retention of the rite, the liturgical language, the calendar, married parish clergy and the church's own discipline, and Rome agreed. The result is that a Syro-Malankara Qurbana and a Malankara Orthodox Qurbana are, to a visitor, the same service with different names in the intercessions. The church became a major archiepiscopal church sui iuris in 2005, and its head bears the title Catholicos, which Rome permitted in 2005 in recognition of the Malankara tradition.
