Jibril — the angel of the word.
The revelation had a carrier: the same Gabriel who hailed Mary, in Islam's telling, pressed the first sura on a trembling man in a cave.
Jibril is the channel rather than the source, and Islamic theology keeps that distinction sharp: the revelation is God's speech, and the angel carries it without adding to it. The tradition describes the Prophet's first sight of him filling the horizon, and also his frequent appearances in human form — most famously as a stranger who arrives to question the Prophet in front of the companions, so that they learn the answers by listening. He is the same Gabriel who announces to Mary in Luke and in the Quran, which is one of the clearest shared threads between the traditions.
Say: whoever is an enemy of Jibril — he brought it down upon your heart by God's leave.
